About

My name is Selina Musleh, I am in my fourth year of elementary education at the University of Regina. I have wanted to be a teacher for many years as I grew up watching my mom teach. My goal as a teacher is to be able to truly teach my students through engaging activities, not just teach the curriculum content. Every student deserves to have an education that is personalized to their needs. Students learn best through hands on experiences and activities that are engaging and meeting their interests. It is important to allow for students to use their creativity and let that be expressed in their school work. When my student’s enter my classroom I want them to feel like they can express who they are and be comfortable to open up about themselves. Each year my goal will be to create a community environment and foster positive relationships that will last. When I enter the school I will bring my creativity, enthusiasm, and excitement into the school with me each day.

In my second year of university I started working at Prairie Lilly Early Learning Center. For the two years I worked in the before and after school program. This program includes students from grades 1-5. We run our program every morning and afternoon in the mini gym of the school. This job has helped me to learn class management skills as I am having to manage around 30 kids of many ages while in a gym. This has helped me with planning for a large group of kids and accommodating all ages. Overall this job continues to be an amazing learning experience for me and has helped me to prepare for my pre-internship year. Outside of school life, one of my interests is synchronized swimming. I have been taking part in this sport since I was in grade 5. When I started high school I started coaching recreational synchronized swimming and some competitive teams, duets, and solos as I got older. This is something I continue to do this year which has once again helped me with class management and lesson planning but in a setting outside of school. I love seeing the faces on my swimmers when they are learning a new sport.

As I continue my education to become a teacher, I look forward to learning from other amazing educators so I can strive to be the best teacher I can be. I can’t wait to see where my teaching career will take me.
